New Travel Rewards Card - Mashreq sMiles Credit Card

Mashreq sMiles Credit Card

Mashreq Bank is the newest entrant in the Travel Rewards Cards segment in UAE. Here’s a review of the Card and how it fares with existing Cards in this segment.

What is the Card about?

The main proposition of the card is redemption of reward points against any airlines ticket or hotels worldwide. A Cardholder can earn 1.25 sMiles for every AED spend locally and 3.25 sMiles for every AED spend internationally.  There are no restrictions on where the expense is made for earning sMiles and no limitation on redeeming miles. These sMiles can be redeemed for air tickets across 300 airlines worldwide, 180,000 hotel reservations and holiday packages like cruise, desert safari etc.

What are the miles worth?

2500 sMiles are worth AED 25 when purchasing an air ticket (according to a telebanking officer at Mashreq). This works out to a 1% conversion rate on miles.

Other travel related benefits include:

  • Complimentary access to Marhaba Lounges at Dubai International Airport (Terminal 1,2 and 3), DWC – Al Maktoum International Airport & at Kuwait, Egypt, Jordan & KSA
  • AED 500 of complimentary Duty Free shopping per year*
  • Free travel insurance

The sMiles Card comes at 0 annual fees and allows access to the powerful dining program covering 1800 restaurants across UAE and 1300 restaurants across Oman, Qatar and India.

How does it compare to other Travel Related Credit Cards in UAE

While there are many Travel Reward Cards in the market such as Citibank Emirates Credit Cards, Emirates NBD Skywards Credit Cards, ADIB Etihad Guest Credit Cards and ADCB Etihad Guest Credit Cards, The Mashreq sMiles Card is in direct competition with Citibank’s Premier Miles Card and Dubai First’s Skyymiles Card.

MoneyCamel View:

Miles redemption interface is a key determinant to the success of this genre of Credit Cards.  Other Banks in the past have failed to deliver the required standard of service especially on booking air tickets. So, we hope to see Mashreq’s redemption interface working smoothly to match the international standard of service in this industry.

With no annual fees, no tiers or restrictions on earning rewards and a strong conversion rate on rewards, The Mashreq sMiles Credit Card does bring another reason to smile.
